About Dispatches from the Edge

Dispatches from the Edge sits alongside EDGE: A field guide for operating when technology changes faster than humans do.

It’s for when technology changes faster than humans do and written for people who are expected to act, decide, and take responsibility under conditions of speed, uncertainty, and consequence.

The book names the terrain.
This Substack keeps working inside it.

What you’ll find here

I publish two kinds of writing.

Dispatches
Short public pieces that surface what is changing in real time. How work is shifting. Where responsibility is landing. What patterns are starting to repeat across organisations and technologies.

Field Notes
Paid, deliberately constrained notes written for moments when judgement matters more than information.

Each Field Note isolates a recurring operating condition that appears when technology accelerates:

  • decisions made before certainty arrives

  • responsibility without clear authority

  • irreversible choices taken under pressure

These notes are not commentary or opinion. They are instruments. Written to be read once, then returned to when similar conditions reappear.

There is no fixed publishing schedule. New work is released when it is ready - roughly every ten days.

What this work is about

Most technology writing focuses on tools, trends, or predictions.

This work focuses on conditions.

Conditions are the forces that shape behaviour and decision-making before anyone formally names them:

  • speed without time to reflect

  • systems that move faster than governance

  • accountability that arrives after the fact

The details change.
The conditions repeat.

EDGE names those conditions.
The Field Notes make them usable.

Who this is for

This work tends to resonate with people who:

  • carry responsibility for outcomes

  • operate inside fast-moving systems

  • are expected to decide before clarity arrives

You don’t need to read everything.
You need the right language at the right moment.

You’re welcome to read quietly, return to the notes when needed, or support the work by subscribing.
